With our deep (if, at times, offbeat) passion for style and our firm belief that politics matter, Dressed in the Dark can’t help but like the look of Think Act Vote. It’s a campaign bringing creative people in ethical fashion, politics and design together to exchange apathy for commitment to change.
It all centres on an alternative election being held in various public and private spaces to help people who might not be interested in the upcoming general election to relate politics to their lives by completing the statement: “The future I choose…”
“If politics were a fashion label, you wouldn’t wear it,” said Think Act Vote founder Amisha Ghadiali, “We want to use creativity to create a community around the choices we make for our future.”
The campaign kicked off on March 24 with a launch party at Eco-Fashion Boutique Ascension. The night included the announcement of the winning design for the Think Act Vote t-shirt competition. Up and coming designers, artists and illustrators had presented their concepts for the campaign’s carbon neutral t-shirt, produced in partnership with ethical clothing brand Komodo.
Winner Jesson Yip’s design contains symbols filled with “Think Act Vote” in different fonts to represent the diversity of voices in society. Jesson said: “The design stands out as something a bit different. The hope is that it will create intrigue and spark off a conversation or two.” We’re sure it will!
The Think Act Vote t-shirt is available at Komodo for £20. Customized versions are being created by ethical designers Ada Zanditon, Beautiful Soul, Nancy Dee, and Mia.
Think Act Vote’s alternative election continues throughout April and its ‘votes’ will be collected in an anthology to be presented to the Prime Minister on the day after the general election.
So far votes include statements like, “The Future I choose…is green, natural and happy. And beautiful clothes, minus the sweatshops!” and “The Future I choose…a world where every human being is treated as an equal.”
